AES: When I saw the previews for this movie I thought it looked really good, but I'm not a huge fan of Jodie Foster, so I was a little skeptical because of that. At the beginning of the movie it was very obvious what was about to happen, but it was still shocking. Jodie Foster's character does what a lot of us want to do- get revenge on someone that has hurt us. The movie was almost a female version of "Boondock Saints," but definitely not as good! I did enjoy the movie, and like JPH, it really made me think about feeling safe. I would recommend seeing it.

AES: I didn't think this movie would be funny either because I haven't been impressed with Will Ferrell's movies lately, but it was hilarious! I don't usually laugh out loud during movies, but I did during this one. It was more crude than some of his other movies, but a lot of that was very funny too. JPH definitely has some new quotes (he has plenty already though ;). I agree with JPH, it's not appropriate for younger viewers, but I definitely recommend it.

JPH: I didn't know much about this movie coming into it - I knew it took place in Tennessee and was based on real events. All in all, this was a creepy flick - all the little noises, and lighting effects, and voicing made the movie pretty forboding and dark. Aside from the plot never really going anywhere, I enjoyed it, not that I'd really want to see it again. I came away from it saying - "you know, that movie was pretty creepy, not great, but creepy".

AES: We just caught this movie on Showtime OnDemand one night, and I had remembered that it looked creepy. It was definitely creepy; I jumped a few times! Since it was based on true events, I think it made it even scarier. There was also a neat twist at the end. I think I liked it a little more than JPH, but I agree with him that I probably won't see it again, but I do recommend it if you want to see something creepy.

JPH: There was a lot of hype for this movie and I was really anxious to have a crack at it. The first-person perspective was a little distracting at first (the shots were shaky and wobbly) but as the story picked up, it became less distracting and more life-life and engaging to the viewer. I liked the whole concept though, like others, I thought the monsters could have used a little more work. The concept was interesting and I enjoyed this flick.

AES: At first, I was really excited about this movie, but then I heard from some friends that is wasn't very good. When we first started watching it, I was a little distracted too by the first-person point-of-view, but I think it added a lot to the movie; it felt like I was apart of it, like I was running from the monster too. I wish they would have developed the monster more: where it came from, why it was there, and what happened after it left. Overall though, great movie; I definitely recommend it.

AES: I was really looking forward to this movie too, but the "twist" was disappointing and cheesy. I'm a big Deschanel fan, but she did not act well in this movie. She's a better comedian than dramatist. The way people died was gruesome at times; I had to look away. The movie ended very abruptly, and there really weren't answers (maybe that's what he was going for though?). It seems that Shyamalan had to do something quickly and this was the best he could do.

JPH: I was anxious to see this movie after hearing of all the awards it was nominated to recieve. I had no idea of the plot line or characters, so this was all new to me. While I maintain that it was a good movie, it ran a little long for my liking (a little slow at times) and felt more daunting than entertaining. I think it's worth seeing, but not one that I'd want to re-watch... and that's my justification for my rating.
***
AES: I agree with JPH, but I think it was way too long. I didn't know a whole lot about it either, other than it received a lot of awards. The acting was very good, and Daniel Day-Lewis was on the verge of creepy during some parts. I won't see it again, and I would only recommend it if you think the premise sounds decent and you like Daniel Day-Lewis.
